Ted Talk

Applying unexpected elements to a shot may improve it greatly. Surrealism ups the ante and makes things much more captivating. Color is related to surrealism as well. It is best to utilize particular colors to create a “feeling” or “setting” in a surrealistic photograph. Dark and pale colors contrast. Very black indeed. And more light. The perspective of the shot may also contribute to the illusion. In a matter of seconds, perspective, color, significance, and oddness can transform the mundane into the bizarre. To make a photograph appear surreal, we can add additional elements and backdrops. We may modify it to match another image and give it a different meaning by altering the contract and color scheme. If given the chance, a straightforward snapshot may alter.

It’s essential to plan out your surrealistic shot to get a better result. In his TED presentation, Erik Johansson describes the planning process he uses to get the images he wants. After drawing them, he snaps the pictures. To get the ideal shot, he tinkers with the settings. In terms of surrealism, everything is possible. Everything is OK as long as it flows smoothly and doesn’t appear choppy. Ideas may originate from anyplace. Surrealism places a lot of emphasis on editing. It won’t be surrealism if editing or objects aren’t present. Making a surrealistic image might take a little bit of time or a considerable period of time.

Surrealism is a great aspect to have in your photography overall. It creates something unique, distinctive, and captivating. Of course, it is more challenging to do, but when done well, it is magnificent. When it comes to surrealism, there are many surrealism photographers who all have comparable experiences. It needs patience, practice, and time. Surrealism has a lot of beauty and can accomplish a lot in a single image. When creativity enters, it has an intriguing result.

How to use a DSLR PPT and synopsis

The ISO is International Organization for Standards – number that describes film’s sensitivity to light

ISO is used to describe sensitivity of digital sensors in digital cameras

HIGH ISO value means the sensor will be MORE sensitive to light, meaning it will take LESS LIGHT to get the right exposure

more available light = lower ISO

less available light = higher ISO

shutter speed: how long the shutter is open

choose shutter speed based on situation: higher speed to capture fast action

The 180-degree Shutter Speed rule:

The shutter in a camera is half a circle (180 degrees)

So, your shutter speed should be double
your frame rate

camera shake: occurs with a shutter speed slower than 1/ [focal length] of a second

Aperture is also know as the f-stop

fraction: focal length divided by lens diameter

aperture and depth of field: larger aperture, shallower depth of field

depth of field and focal length longer lenses APPEAR to have a shallower depth of field because they are magnifying the subject, which flattens the perspective and makes our eyes think the DOF is shallower

Full Auto (green rectangle) – camera does EVERYTHING for you

CA (Creative Auto– camera does almost everything BUT lets you choose brightness, depth of field, picture style by pressing the Q button

P (Program) – camera sets shutter speed and aperture, but you can choose ISO, AF/MF, white balance

M (Manual) – you choose EVERYTHING

Av (Aperture priority) – you choose aperture, camera chooses appropriate shutter speed

A-Dep (Automatic depth of field) – camera chooses aperture, shutter speed combo to get best DOF

Tv (Shutter Speed priority) – you choose shutter speed, camera chooses appropriate aperture

These are all facts I learned from the PowerPoint.

  1. What are aperture, shutter speed and ISO? Aperture: Controls the area over which light enters your camera. Shutter speed: controls the duration of the exposure. ISO speed: controls the sensitivity of your camera’s sensor to a given amount of light.
  2. When would you need to change your ISO? to Match your subjective, more if the subject is moving fast. for example, you would put your ISO up when doing sports photography.
  3. What is aperture and shutter priority settings? Aperture Priority lets you choose the aperture setting you want, but the camera chooses the shutter speed. Shutter Priority lets you choose the shutter speed you want, but the camera chooses the aperture setting.
  4. What are AF modes how do you change them? AF stands for Auto Focus. to use it, Set the Lens to AF mode. Most brands have a button on the lens and the camera body to switch between AF and MF Mode. Press the shutter button halfway down or the AF-ON button if you use back-button focus to focus on your subject.
  5. Why do your need to meter the light to get the right exposure? Incident light metering will give you consistently correct exposure results, because it wont be fooled by subject reflectivity.
  6. What is white balance and why would you need to change it? It means that if you want to copy the white balance settings from one image and paste them onto another that was taken with a different camera make or model, your final images might not look the same.
  7. What is depth of field and what is the difference between shallow and good? Depth of field is the area of acceptable sharpness in front of and behind the subject which the lens is focused.
  8. What are drive modes and metering modes? Metering is how your camera determines what the correct shutter speed and aperture should be, depending on the amount of light that goes into the camera and the ISO.
  9. What is exposure compensation? Exposure compensation is a technique for adjusting the exposure indicated by a photographic exposure meter

Given the variety of employment opportunities in the industry, I’d like to pursue a career as a professional photographer. Due to its increased popularity, it is now easier to enter and offers more opportunities. More people hiring/looking for photographers means more opportunities for a number of reasons.
